— Excerpts from Miographies —

The narrative of a Miographies’ life story is usually preceded by a Foreword. Here are some selected excerpts from published works.

The Daughter of Immigrants

“Somehow, I always knew I would tell my story.

I didn’t know how it would come about, but I always knew that I would tell it. Please know that I do not think my story is more profound or special than anyone else’s. However, I do believe that people with whom I have shared my life are very special. Together, we have created a life full of not only laughter, but it is also one of meaning and wonder.

I want future generations to know our family traditions and little things - like how my mother and father felt when they first saw the Statue of Liberty.”

The Journeyer

“The process of choosing the stories I want to document has been a journey in and of itself. As I have reflected on my life, I am uncovering the defining moments. I had never realized the twists and turns so clearly, and I am happy that I can now share my journey from this new point-of-view.”

Charles Philip Reynolds

“Charles Philip Reynolds was born into an era that is rapidly disappearing; a time when life was much simpler, not easier, but simpler. Charles, like many people born in the 1920’s, has lived through several wars, the Great Depression, and the biggest technological advancements the world has ever known.

Certainly, some people born in the 20s have not been able to keep up with these changes; they simply have not kept pace. However, as Charles’ story will reflect, he has kept up with the times and still has never veered from the basic and classic values of goodness, integrity and kindness.

On February 8, 2004, Charles’ beloved wife died, much too soon. With her passing, Charles slowed down. His heart opened. He began to think about his own life—beyond the facts—his own legacy, what has mattered, and what has held special meaning. He realized, more than ever before, that he wanted his own children and future generations to know more about him.”

The Physician

“I have longed to share my story…

It has been easy for me to share my political views, my opinions, my philosophies and my experiences in my medical practice. However, to also share the stories of my heart and my personal point-of-view is very important to me.

What has mattered most to me are people - not just the people in my everyday life but also those who are just at the edge of my awareness. In fact, as I walk to my office, I often wonder what the personal lives are like of the people I see.

But, those are not the thoughts that I want to share here. I want to tell you about the people who have opened my heart, again and again. I want to tell you about some of the pain that I carry in my heart and some of the joy. I do long to tell you about my inner-life.”

Bill

“When Bill walked up the narrow staircase to the old hayloft where we would be taping his story, I sensed “the more.” That’s a phrase that I have come to use when it feels like untainted truth is not only possible but required. Simply put: Bill was up front from the get-go. He knew he had a story to tell, and he wanted to get right to it.

(Bill shares his story here)

I walked into every company with the idea that it was my job to get to know everyone there and to refuse to accept that anyone was a stranger to me.”
